Critical Literacy

Critical literacy is understood as “learning to read and write as part of the process of becoming conscious of one’s experience as historically constructed within specific power relations.”

Critical literacy is language use that questions the social construction of the self. When we are critically literate, we examine our ongoing development, to reveal the subjective positions from which we make sense of the world and act in it.

Your literacy group has put together a list of great questions to ask your child during reading. Please see the attached page. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to send them in through your child’s agenda.
